Her face is gentle, pale and yearning; haloed head bent towards an empty pew. Upon an altar, tapers burning; light flickering on a sad-eyed saint whose gaze is somber, grave, discerning unchanging in cracked and faded paint; slain in half forgotten violence, a martyr bejeweled with worldly taint. They answer all the pleas for guidance with not a breath to mar the silence.
